Sense & Sensitivity

From: 19-11-2017 To: 4-12-2017

A sun ray shined on our village from Amarna [in Minya, Upper Egypt], on a winter morning in the heart of Aten’s horizon, accompanied by the royal fragrance of the beautiful Nefertiti. That was the first spark in my little heart. The incident became my first encounter with life and my revisited beginnings.

Through my diary, I reminisce my past: the fun careless days of acquiring knowledge, the emotions of the mind and the flow of feelings, lessons paving ways that would later become my life guidebook. In my childhood I found myself fascinated by the friendly creatures I lived with, watching them in movement and stillness. I was fascinated by them changing their skins. I had the chance to know them well by heart. This acted as my own laboratory and store for memories, which I revisit from time to time.

I always observe what I see and what happens in my surroundings, whether my small direct circles or the Cosmos at large. I sail in uncountable spaces, mazes and talismans which I fully enjoy, resolving problems and deciphering my personal codes.

I begin with the surface of things and proceed down to their core, deconstructing them and providing my own perspective. In my mind, ideas and their realizations struggle over which of them sees the light: the philosophical and the metaphysical, the realistic and the expressionist, the organic and the geometric, the rational and the surrealist, or the discordant and the inclusive? It is a diversity in style and content. A sentence can differ in substance and form, but it aims at one meaningful concept; that is the core of the artist.

I got used to dealing with contradictions: the flexibility of clay and wax, and the hardness of granite, marble and bronze, the ancient and the modern, the primitive and the contemporary. Nature does not play the same tune.

How to carve the non-form, grab the moment, or express the invisible? The presence of space, toying with gravity laws and escaping them, soaring away from our planet, fleeing constraints...Freedom is joy.
