"El-Gamaliyyah", the famous Egyptian Quarter, with its culture and historical sites, is considered the hub of Cairo's Heritage.

Al-Azhar, the walls of Cairo and its gates, the Mamluk and Ayyubid schools, the Mosque of Al-Aqmar and Al-Hakim-Bi-Amr ‘Elah, Khan Al-Khalili, the jewelers and hammered brass quarters, among many others are located there. East of El-Gamaliyyah is Muez-El-Din street and the well known Bein-El-Asrein area, and from the North and West are the historical gates of Cairo that surround the palaces of the Fatimid caliphate which at one point took up about the fifth of the size of Cairo.

Inspired by El-Gamaliyyah and its people, Khalid Al-Abasseery created his latest collection of sculptures. He conveys to us the legacy of this neighborhood through its people and their professions, using his cubist inspired styles and special detailing. He does so with such eloquence that we are able to clearly envision the world of El-Gamaliyyah right before our eyes.

On a cafe table, two men sit in a competitive stance, arm wrestling with passion. A Water Bearer surprises us with his full bottle to quench the thirst of the people of the neighborhood, when he is met with the local liquorice merchant, beating his traditional symbols to offer his refreshing drink. On the corner stands the photographer with his classic tripod, capturing scenes of his town, while a local lady sits on the doorstep of her home, watching it all.

El Abasseery continues his journey in the neighborhood through a group of exceptional artisans all dressed in traditional clothes, ending his tour with the members of a local music group playing the drums, the flute and the traditional "Rababah" among others.

In a unique artistic style, Khaled El Abasseery takes us back to the origins of our cultural neighborhoods, the heritage of our craftsmanship, Arts of our country, and the authenticity of our people.
