Gazbia Sirry & the glorification of the canvas
She is the icon of modern and contemporary Egyptian Art, thanks to her achievements through her long and magnificent journey, her creative boldness, and the depth of the unity of her feelings that flows in an expressive energy, hand in hand with a renewable, zigzag experimental inclination.
While she advances very fast in the Abstract with the technicalities and the unique color groups, the system of treating surfaces with pastes, brush strokes, knife dragging and etching on thick paste, in her way of shifting from one expressive subject to another and from one way of forming a composition to another, and in her treatment of the case of the human being in an unjust environment of randomness and noise, stuck in the masses of buildings or freely released in the desert, sea or river, she hoards in her works a dramatic energy of the utmost strength and clarity that reflects her own features, facial expressions and the rhythm of her voice
Gazbia Sirry presents in this exhibition a state of reduced "Minimalism", by which she treats her favorite subjects; the human being and where he lives, with a nostalgic whim of longing to her personal heritage and persistence in recalling its features from time to time, as those faces appear in her paintings imprisoned in the windows and looking on. And the houses on the beach, those gathered humanized houses looking on the views of her paintings in their boxish masses, vaults, domes and symbolic windows. We find the bathers in the high wave sea and the scenes of the market and the village, the perpendicular divisions with their color balance and intersections, all melt together in a painting language pulsating with vitality and happiness.
She reduces the elements to "Codes", maintaining the flow of the vitality of the broad-brush strokes and its boldness with the thick or diluted pastes. Nervous strokes that witness her revolutionary and confident decision.
While the artist glorifies the surface of the canvas and makes a room for it to breath in its paintings strongly and intimately, she packs these amazing groups of colors in intertwined and piled areas, ribbons and defining lines in a form which is extremely special, strong and poetic.
