Rabab Nemr "Patience is a Virtue" Press Release:
Rabab Nemr is a veteran Egyptian artist whose work has been exhibited consistently since her graduation from the Fine Arts Faculty in Alexandria in 1963. Her exhibition "Patience is a Virtue" at Zamalek Art Gallery features some of her largest and diversified work to date.
Rabab Nemr's work has always been quite intricate in relation to its size. Her attention to detail is magnificent, using miniscule strokes of a radiograph pen in order to create large pieces that convey the soul of her hometown, Alexandria. Her current title is "Patience is a virtue", is testament to both her technique, as well as to her subject matter.
In this collection, which will be taking up both of Zamalek Art Gallery's venues, the artist continues to mix between solid black and white works, and those with colour. She revisits her favourite subjects such as "The Last Supper", the fishermen and women of Alexandria, their boats and their fish, but also introduces a new element: The Cactus. Nemr has been an adoring fan of the Cactus plant for years, and has been planting them in her gardens for as long as she can remember. For the first time, the Cactus plant makes its way through her works, adding a new sharp edge- literally- that gives this collection a special flair from her earlier work. This is an original and larger than life collection from the ever growing artist, an exhibition that is simply a must see.
