I will beget a child and name him Adam. Because in our times names are charges in themselves, I will not name him Mohamed or Essa (Isa/ Jesus), Aly or Omar, Saddam or Hussein, Zakareya (Zechariah) or Ibrahim (Abraham), nor David or George. I fear he will grow up a racist, and his name would be his share. Foreigners would consider him a terrorist, radicals would see him as an infidel, Sunni would call him Shiite or Alawi, and Shiites would count him as Sunni. I am afraid his name would be his passport. I want him an Adam, all at once. I want him to know that religion is for God and homeland is for everyone. I will teach him that religion is what lies in his heart and genuine deeds, not his name. I will tell him that Arabism is an illusion, and make him believe in humanism instead. I will teach him that hunger is heathen, ignorance is heathen and injustice is heathen. I will teach him that God rests in our hearts and what we lack is that which we have. I will tell him that I will beget him a boy because girls still face femicide, and something is still rotten in the Arab society.
